Getting around in
Cape Town is easy
Just hop on the closest ostrich and off you go! OK, not
really, South Africa's a little more developed than that!
There are alot of ways to get
yourself around the greater Cape Town area. Below we offer
information about the most popular modes of transport, although
not as efficient as in Europe or the States, but taken with
a pinch of salt you'll navigate the town and surrounds,
and probably have alot of fun while doing it. Using public
transport is a great way to experience local culture, several
guests have described riding the minibus taxis as being
one of the highlights of their trip!
Security in Cape Town is not unlike many developing cities
around the world. Crime does exist, but it is very rare
for incidents to happen on public transport. Be conscious
of your belongings, and don't carry large amounts of cash.
Try chat to the person next to you, and enjoy the ride!

Bus

|
The Golden Arrow Bus
Company services the whole of the Cape Town area. Between
the suburbs and the city centre busses run about every
15-20 minutes, along the main roads. Find your closest
bus stand and hold out your hand when the bus approaches.
TIP: If you are planning
t do multiple trips on the bus, pre-buy your tickets and
save.

Train
|
Cape Town is linked with a fairly
wide network of rail routes. The train is a very efficient
way to get in and out of the city, with trains running
every 20 minutes during weekdays, every 30-40 mins on
weekends and public holidays. There are both 1st and 3rd
class tickets, 1st class having seats and 3rd class being
standing room.
TIP: The train-ride between
Observatory and Cape Town is a must-see for graffiti fans.
The same trian in the opposite direction takes you Muizenberg
and Simonstown, and runs so close to the sea passengers
are sometimes hit by the spray!

Minibus
Taxi
|
Oh the minibus taxi! The 'trusty'
mode of transport most used by South Africans. Taxi's
operate along all routes, and can be identified by incessant
hooting, and their destination being yelled by the drivers
assistant, the 'gaatchie'.
TIP: The taxi's are usually
packed, drive too fast and blare the music, but they're
cheap and a unique experience not to be missed!

Metered
Taxi
 |
Metered Taxi's or Cabs, are available
all over the city. Most are very efficient, some are unscrupulous.
Always find out roughly how far the distance is before
you go, to check against the drivers meter. Taxis can
be hailed along most roads, or call their office and they
will send a cab out to meet you.
TIP: Metered Taxis charge
for the trip, not per person, so if you are in a group
it can be quite affordable.

Opentop
Bus
|
The Cape Town Explorer opentop
busses are a great way to see the sights of the city for
a reasonable price. They have two routes running, and
are hop-on-hop-off, so you can take your time to explore
the places the bus visits. Some highlights are Camps Bay
beaches, Cape Point Nature Reserve and Kirstenbosch Botanical
Gardens.
TIP: Cheapest

|

car is a great way to explore ALL that Cape Town has to
offer, at your own pace. There are many car rental companies
in Cape Town, and we have the facility to search for the
cheapest car rental deals.
