Information about the projects;
Cape
Town
Experience the majestic natural
beauty of the Southern tip of Africa. The Cape Town
project is split between two venues, our organic farm
in the south peninsula during the weeks mon-fri, and
our city-based Lodge on weekends. This working organic
farm is set in a beautiful valley close to stunning
beaches and an array of great sights and activities.
We are also very involved with our local community,
and volunteers can be expected to fill in with the
current program which includes the local soup kitchen,
social upliftment projects, and an AIDS outreach and
education program. The work changes on a day-to-day
basis, based on the needs of the community, so you
can expect to work at a variety of locations in the
community. There is also the opportunity to learn
about organic farming, enjoy magnificent horserides
on the beach, visit the Cape Point Nature Reserve
and the penguin colonies close by. The farm also houses
a beautiful yoga and meditation centre for those interested
in body and mind :)
On weekends Volunteers are transferred to our city-based
Guest Lodge, where there is the opportunity to explore
Cape Town's city centre, Table Mountain, The Waterfront,
Nelson Mandela museum, wine tasting, and loads of
great night-time entertainment with a huge selection
of restaurants and bars to suit any taste.
Jeffreys Bay
Situated on the Sunshine Coast, Jeffreys Bay is a
world-famous surfing town with beautiful beaches and
coastal areas, plus a thriving holiday town popular
with local and international visitors. Volunteers
work mon-fri at our Community Creche, assisting teachers
with lessons and activities for delightful 2-5yr old
children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Work includes
assisting with meals, lessons, playtime, as well as
some minor maintenance and upkeep of our Volunteer-founded
vegetable garden. The afternoons and weekends are
free to learn to surf, sandboarding, horseriding,
nature trips, visiting game parks and safari's. The
accommodation is at a fantastic lodge overlooking
the ocean, 2 min walk from the beach. The house is
popular with international tourists and surfers, and
has many communal areas to enjoy the atmosphere.
Cape
Town - Garden Route - Jeffreys Bay
D.I.Y. Volunteer Tour
This option comprises two weeks working in Cape Town,
then boarding the BazBus, a hop-on-hop-off door-to-door
bus that travels along the Garden Route. You can make
this trip as long or short as you like, and there
are many great sights, towns and activities along
the Route to keep you busy for at least a week! Awesome
nature experiences, beautiful beaches, elephant sanctuary,
worlds highest bungyjump. Then the BazBus will drop
you off at the door of your Jeffreys Bay accommodation.
Then spend two weeks enjoying and working in Jeffreys
Bay. If you have the time, this is a fantastic way
to safely and easily explore alot of what South Africa
has to offer, and to work on a variety of communtiy
upliftment projects.
What makes volunteering
with us different?
Unlike many other volunteer programs, this is not
operated by an external agency. Everything is run
by a team of local staff that are permanently based
at the project locations. We are also a non-profit
company, whereby cutting out the middleman we are
able to offer very low prices for a great programme.
Included in the profect fee is a 'working donation'
of R1250 per 2 week placement. This money is used
to directly improve facilities or services at each
project, and you as the volunteer have a say in how
it is utilised. For example, our volunteers have paid
for painting buildings, fixing bathrooms, installing
hot water geysers, building a basketball court, tye-dyeing
t-shirt making classes, excursions to touch farms
with the kids, the list goes on! Its very flexible,
and the onus is on being 100% transparent as an organisation,
so that you are able to have the best-value, best
fun experience whilst doing more than just working,
actually leaving a legacy behind for others after
you are gone.
The project fee is made up only of the costs incurred
in having you here, ie. You pay for accommodation,
breakfast daily, airport transfers, R1250 working
donation. Any additional tours or meals you wish to
take are at the volunteers expense, this is how we
keep the project fees as low as possible.
